Provider details

Google's flagship AI assistant across Gemini web/mobile and Google's developer/enterprise AI stack. Available via gemini.google.com, AI Studio (free dev access), and Vertex AI (enterprise).

Common limits & quotas
  • Free tier available via AI Studio with per-minute rate limits
  • Paid API access via AI Studio or Vertex AI with tier-based quotas
  • Vertex AI offers quota increases via GCP console
Ecosystem dependencies
Workspace AI features depend on Gemini backendAndroid integration (Gemini assistant) depends on cloud APIVertex AI and AI Studio are separate infrastructures; enterprise Vertex users often unaffected by gemini.google.com outages
Operator notes
  • Vertex AI and AI Studio route through different quota pools; verify which one your workload uses
  • Google's status page covers Vertex AI but not gemini.google.com directly β€” consumer UI outages may not be flagged
  • Workspace integration can degrade independently of core Gemini β€” check the right status dashboard
  • Gemini models have the longest context windows in the industry; tooling that assumes OpenAI-style token limits may underestimate capacity

How we monitor

DownForAI checks monitored AI service surfaces on a rotating schedule, roughly every 75 minutes per surface, from a single centralized probe infrastructure. For services with an official machine-readable status page, we use that official status signal when available. For other services, we perform a basic public-surface check. Some services block datacenter probes; in those cases we mark them as β€œMonitoring limited” instead of treating a failed probe as a confirmed outage. Status is classified as Operational, Degraded, or Outage. Network latency (check response time) measures how long the monitored endpoint took to respond to our probe β€” it is not model inference speed, time-to-first-token, or tokens-per-second performance. We are independent of all providers listed and receive no compensation to report any particular status.
